Nautical Christmas

My love of working with burlap continues. I've had a lot of fun making these items. Here's a nautical garland I just finished. It has small 'flags' portraying boats carrying Christmas to port, larger Christmas trees, and fringe with bows. I hand cut all the appliques and iron then sew them on. Finding all sorts of holiday trims to add sparkle has also been a lot of fun.

Then I got hooked on beach cabanas. I just think they are so cute. I created this holiday table topper with a small cabana along side a swaying palm tree in opposite corners.

Next I headed out to the beach to pick up just the perfect size pieces of driftwood to use in creating beach cabana ornaments.

Driftwood Christmas Tree

Hi all, not a sewing project, but a fun project. As some of you previously have read, I have pieces of driftwood all over the house from my collecting on the beach. So I thought I'd try making a Christmas tree out of some of it. I took and laid out all the pieces in order of size. I decided to put smaller pieces in between the larger ones because I liked how it looked and made my tree taller. I then went to the hardware store and bought a 1/8" dowel rod. Got out the old drill, found the right bit size and drilled a hole in the base piece of wood. Once I stuck the dowel rod in the base, I began drilling holes in the center of all of my driftwood pieces and lacing them onto the rod. I was lucky enough to have a triangle-shaped piece for the top! Merry Christmas!

Nautical Christmas table toppers

These are just great little Nautical Christmas table toppers to add a touch of holiday to your kitchen island, table or buffet. They are 20" and 22" square depending on design. The sailboat follows the bright star while the little boat hauls a Christmas. All are topped off with a jingle bell. The design appears in opposite corners of the square. I then wove ribbon through the burlap to create a decorative border. More details available here: http://www.etsy.com/shop/Floatinteriors

Nautical Christmas Wine Bags

Now, I realize that it is only October, but when you actually have to make things for holiday selling, you have to get moving early. So, I'm trying out a couple new styles of wine bags showing off the holiday spirit. I drew, than cut, than sewed on the appliques, then applied little jingle bells and snowflakes. I tried many different fabric and color combinations, but these were the two I thought looked best. Next, I'm going to try some table top decor. Stay tuned...
