Project "Lois" Continues

It's been a while since I've had anything to post. I'm enjoying the summer! But I did get a few rainy days to work on more of Lois' project. I have now completed the valances for the living room. I'm hoping she'll send me pics soon. I also completed a table runner, basketweave pillow and basketweave table pad. On the table runner I included contrasting piping. The basketweave pieces were something I wanted to experiment with anyway. I like how they turned out but they are quite labor intensive. Each strip is cut, sewn, turned right side out, pressed, move on to the next one. If I had a cork board weaving them would have been easier since I could have held everything in place with push pins. Pinning each of the overlaps was difficult and then it was harder to make adjustments as you weave the next strip.

Peek-A-Boo Valance #1

This is a peek-a-boo valance which includes a contrasting fabric in between the scallops of the main fabric. Because this fabric was a medium weight I chose to not include cord in the piping, which I feel would have made it too stiff. So I still get the coordinating look that I wanted without the add'l fullness.

Scalloped Piped Valance #1

Here's an example of a scalloped, piped valance. This was a lightweight fabric so I included cord in the piping to add some body.

48" Square Tablecloth with border

This was my last sewing project for this weekend. Again, using a Tommy Bahama indoor/outdoor fabric I've constructed a square tablecloth with a coordinating border.

Tommy Bahama Pillow

This was a fun project. This pillow uses indoor/outdoor fabric by Tommy Bahama. It is an 18" square pillow with coordinating piping. There is a zipper back. I've also included a couple pics of some ideas I want to try to embellish the pillow.

Placemat Idea

This is an idea for a placemat using two coordinating indoor/outdoor fabrics, grommets and a square knot for design. To keep the cost down I used a solid fabric for the back as opposed to the more expensive Waverly fabric.

Boat Bag #2

Here is boat bag #2. I like many things about this style bag -- the longer handles so you can carry it on your shoulder, the outside pocket with the contrast band and the two large inside pockets. However, I think it is too small to be a functional tote bag. The height is 14" which is okay, but the width is only 12". I'm thinking 16" would be better. I'll try that next.
